SO YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL?

What is success? It is something that we think about, read about, and talk about, but what is it?!

Society would say that success is;

The wealth of Bill Gates,

The body of Dwayne Johnson,

The power of the Queen,

The intelligence of Elon Musk,

The athletic ability of Cristiano Ronaldo,

The creativity of Steve Jobs,

The imagination of Walt Disney,

The heart of Mother Teresa.

But what does that look like for us? What does that look like for you? See, if you tried to become like any of these people, then you would not be successful - you would just be a bad imitation and eliminate the possibility of becoming the person you were created to be.

Success is not a destination thing, it's a daily thing. It is a journey that we are all on, and that journey starts now. In this series we will be taking a look at what success is, and how we can all be successful.

EPIC FAIL

NOTES //

All of us know what it is like to fail. But some of us also know what it is like to experience an epic fail. An "epic fail" can be described as complete and total failure when success should have been reasonably easy to attain.

There's this TV show called "You've Been Framed" and it is full of epic fails. From the classic, standing on the head of a broom causing it to hit you in the face, to taking out a small child with a football.

Usually when we watch these kind of failures they are funny, they are entertaining. But there are some epic fails that leave people hurt and defeated.

When creating Toy Story 2, one of the Pixar employees accidentally executed a command that would erase two months of work on the film, and hundreds of hours worth of work. Fortunately they managed to find a back- up and restore what was deleted, but at the time, this felt like an epic fail for the company. However, the movie went on to be a success, becoming the second highest-grossing animated film of the time (second to The Lion King in case you wanted to know).

Sometimes on the path to success we will be required to overcome failure.

FAIL FIRST

There is this saying, "fail fast." It encourages you to get all your failing out the way so that you can begin to experience success. But we don’t want to fail fast, we want success fast, but have to be willing to fail in order to get there .

"Successful people don’t fear failure but understand that it's necessary to learn and grow from." - Robert Kiyosaki

Truth is, we can be so afraid to fail that we never even make an attempt to succeed.

SUCCEED SECOND

Well-known basketball player Michael Jordan said this,

“I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

We shouldn’t worry too much when we fail the first time round, but we can do our best to make sure that's the last time. The only failure that can be labelled as an “epic fail” is the one that you do not allow yourself to learn and grow from.

When we fail, rather than calling ourselves a “failure”, we can use it as an opportunity to learn and grow. What you will find is that your failures become some of your greatest teachers and begin to work for you.

NOTES //

When will you be successful? If you’re like most people, what comes to mind is someday—somewhere off in the future, when you’ll suddenly wake up and think, “I made it! I’m a success!” That’s how most unsuccessful people see success: as something to strive for and hope to reach “someday.”

"Success is knowing your purpose in life, growing to reach your maximum potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others" - John Maxwell

In other words, success is a journey, a journey that we are all on, and it starts with what we have in front of us right now.

BEHIND THE SCENES

It has been said that it takes fifteen years to become an overnight success. In other words, it takes hard work that will never been seen to get to a place of success that can be seen and impacts the lives of people.

Everyone who has ever done something significant with their lives had to start somewhere, and usually with very little. It is difficult to see the small things that are in front of us right now becoming big things in the future, which can leave us doing nothing about what we have in our hand right now.

"Anything that is easy to do is also easy not to do." - Jim Rohn

It is easy to pick up litter from the floor that doesn’t belong to you, but it is just as easy to not pick it up and walk straight past. It is easy to read a chapter of a book every day, but it also easy not to. It is easy to plan your day effectively and schedule your calendar. Are you willing to do what it takes behind the scenes in order to build your character.

DAILY THING

"There is no absolute success in the world, only constant progress." - Jonathan Swift

Success is not destination thing, it's a daily thing. Every day is an opportunity to get better, to move forward, to make progress.

An Olympic athlete will train for four years, day-by-day, week-by-week, month-by-month, year-by-year, doing all that they can to be in the best condition possible to gain a chance at winning the gold medal. Every single day they have a choice whether or not they want to get up and train, but it is this daily choice that will determine whether or not they are successful.

Don’t wish you were somewhere else doing something else when you are right where you need to be to start doing something that will positively shape society.
