THINK FRESH

Thinking is something we all do. In fact, it has been said that we have an average of 3000 thoughts per day!

Many of these thoughts are repetitive, and come to our minds sub-consciously. The sub-conscious pat of our mind makes up the majority of our mind, and it makes no distinction between constructive and destructive thoughts - it works with the material that we feed it.

Thought is the original source of all wealth, all success, all invention, and allachievement, but what value do we actually put on good thinking?

"All of the problems of the world could be settled easily if men were only willing to think." - Thomas Watson

If you think a certain way, you'll act a certain way. Change the way you think, and you'll change the way you are; Change the way you are, and you'll change the life you have. It all starts with a thought.

Dan Cathy, the founder of ‘Chik-Fil-A' in the US, takes time out of his schedule just to think, because he realises the importance of his thinking and using his mind.

And so can we spend time thinking; about the things that we do, the people we spend time with, the words we take in, the words that we let out - and all of this will have an impact on the way that we live.

THINK FIRST

NOTES //

Have you ever rushed into something without thinking? Or said something without taking the time to process the impact those words will actually have on the people around you?

It can be so easy to act first, think second, but this is what so often get's people in trouble.

The time we take each day to think can give us an advantage in whatever we are doing, because we have taken the time to plan what we are going to do, considered all the possible outcomes, and have an idea what we will do if faced with a challenging situation.

REFLECTION

Have you ever taken the time at the end of your day just to reflect; what went well, what didn’t go so well, what did I learn, how can I improve?

Life is full, and sometimes we can be so keen on move on to the next thing that we don’t take the time to review the current thing, so we never discover where it is we need to make adjustments in order to improve and get better each day.

“The wise man questions himself, the fool others.” - Henri Arnold

We can actually train our brain to think in a fresh way; if you make a list of 3 good things that happen in your life every single day, then it causes your brain to scan through the last 24 hours looking for good things, and this will gradually train your brain to notice the good things that happen each and every day.

ACTION

"Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action." - Peter F. Drucker

If we take the time to reflect, revisit the past, review our day, then this will only be time well spent if we then step into tomorrow with a different perspective, a greater understanding, and ready to change the way we act.

QUESTIONS //

1 // DO YOU THINK BEFORE YOU ACT?

2 // HOW CAN REFLECTING ON TODAY MAKE US BETTER TOMORROW?

3 // WHAT 3 GOOD THINGS HAVE HAPPENED IN YOUR LIFE TODAY?

THINK FRESH

NOTES//

Ever been given a glass of water that is only filled to half of its total capacity, and then someone asks you, "is this glass of water half-full or half-empty?"

The reason for the question is to determine whether you are optimistic - hopeful about the future, or pessimistic - believe that the worst possible outcome will happen. What if we were to be full of hope for the future, only thinking that the best possible outcome will happen?

“Our thoughts can either build us up, or tear us down.”

Thoughts lead to feelings, which then lead to behaviour. So if our thoughts are negative, we won’t feel great, and then our actions will be destructive. However if our thoughts are positive, then we are better positioned to positively shape society.

NEGATIVE THOUGHTS

We can often tell ourselves negative things, and the voice in our head becomes the loudest voice we hear. Any of these phrases sound familiar;

"I'm not good enough"

"I'm going to fail"

"I could never do that"

Any time you catch yourself saying something negative to yourself, you need to take that thought captive, because it becomes destructive, and can stop you from stepping into your potential.

Replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts and see this change reflected in your actions; "I am good enough, I will not fail, I can do this!"

POSITIVE THOUGHTS

We need to have positive thinking if we are going to positively shape society.

It may not happen immediately, but if we can continue to replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts, then over time, it will transform our thinking and we will think in a fresh way.

QUESTIONS //

1 // DO YOU SEE THE GLASS HALF-FULL OR HALF-EMPTY?

2 // HOW CAN WE TRANSFORM OUR THINKING FROM NEGATIVE TO POSITIVE?

3 // HOW CAN OUR THINKING CHANGE THE WAY WE ACT?
